Four exceptional sailing yachts have chosen Cannes as their home port this winter.
Favourite cinematic memories may float above the famous steps of the Cannes Festival Palace … however just around the corner, on the historic Albert Edward Jetty, named after Queen Victoria’s son, some of the most famous classic sailing yachts sparkle in the winter sun.
These legendary yachts are true jewels of the sea, with their teak and gleaming mahogany, stranded rigging and sparkling copper and bronze deck fittings.
The oldest yacht, ‘Mariette’ is a 42m schooner built in 1915. ‘Cambria’ and ‘Altair’ built in 1928 and 1931 are both Fife boats, named after their designer and builder, William Fife III, the third and most famous of the Fife dynasty of Scottish naval architects. ‘Shamrock’ was also built at the Fife shipyard, and was the first yacht designed according to Class J rules, to allow Sir Thomas Lipton to realise his dream of winning the America’s Cup.
Cannes is proud and delighted to shelter these yachts, which regularly compete on the international classic yacht regatta circuit, including the prestigious Régates Royales, held every September in Cannes.
